I always catch myself getting all sappy when I don't get sleep. I mean as a mom I knew there would be days where I wouldn't get much sleep. I didn't realize there would be more days where I wouldn't get enough sleep than days where I did. As I was laying on the floor playing with the boys this morning (who both decided to get up extra early Broc 5am John 6am) I realized that one day I would wish for these early mornings back. How everything about them changes so fast, how it just feels like yesterday that John came into my life, and then Broc joined the crew. Broc isn't far away from 6 months and John isn't very far from 3 years..wait did I just type 3 years?
So in an effort to embrace the moment and realize that one day I will look back and forget about the dimples in Broc's sweet hands, or John's fuzzy hair that is in need of a hair cut. Or their profiles that I used to dream about when they were in my belly. Or their nose that I am so proud to have be the same as mine. Its amazing how I love every single thing about them, and how the love never goes away...like ever... even when I am mad at John for pooping on my floor, or annoyed that Broc won't nap unless he is in my arms. Because It won't be like this for long...
He didn't have to wake up
He'd been up all night
Layin’ there in bed listenin’
To his new born baby cry
He makes a pot of coffee
He splashes water on his face
His wife gives him a kiss and says
It gonna be OK
He'd been up all night
Layin’ there in bed listenin’
To his new born baby cry
He makes a pot of coffee
He splashes water on his face
His wife gives him a kiss and says
It gonna be OK
It won’t be like this for long
One day we'll look back laughin’
At the week we brought her home
This phase is gonna fly by
So baby just hold on
‘Cause it won't be like this for long
One day we'll look back laughin’
At the week we brought her home
This phase is gonna fly by
So baby just hold on
‘Cause it won't be like this for long
Four years later ‘bout 4:30
She's crawling in their bed
And when he drops her off at preschool
She's clinging to his leg
The teacher peels her off of him
He says what can I do
She says now don't you worry
This’ll only last a week or two
She's crawling in their bed
And when he drops her off at preschool
She's clinging to his leg
The teacher peels her off of him
He says what can I do
She says now don't you worry
This’ll only last a week or two
It won’t be like this for long
One day soon you'll drop her off
And she won’t even know you're gone
This phase is gonna fly by
If you can just hold on
It won’t be like this for long
One day soon you'll drop her off
And she won’t even know you're gone
This phase is gonna fly by
If you can just hold on
It won’t be like this for long
Some day soon she'll be a teenager
And at times he'll think she hates him
Then he'll walk her down the aisle
And he'll raise her veil
But right now she's up and cryin’
And the truth is that he don't mind
As he kisses her good night
And she says her prayers
And at times he'll think she hates him
Then he'll walk her down the aisle
And he'll raise her veil
But right now she's up and cryin’
And the truth is that he don't mind
As he kisses her good night
And she says her prayers
He lays down there beside her
‘Til her eyes are finally closed
And just watchin’ her it breaks his heart
Cause he already knows
‘Til her eyes are finally closed
And just watchin’ her it breaks his heart
Cause he already knows
It won’t be like this for long
One day soon that little girl is gonna be
All grown up and gone
Yeah, this phase is gonna fly by
So, he's tryin’ to hold on
One day soon that little girl is gonna be
All grown up and gone
Yeah, this phase is gonna fly by
So, he's tryin’ to hold on
‘Cause it won’t be like this for long
It won’t be like this for long
It won’t be like this for long
It won’t be like this for long
To My Boys.. Thanks for reminding me that these bags under my eyes are proof of the moments I have spent with you. Always remember it won't be like this for long, embrace the moment, love your family, love your friends, and love God for all he has given you. Because he has blessed us with more than we could ever deserve. Face each day with a new love, and when you are doubting the world or even yourself, remember that there is always something to be thankful for, even if it is the awesome nose you got from your mom!
PS Sorry for the sappy post, mommy might need a nap today to get all these mommy emotions out!!
Also a big thank you to my amazing husband for sharing this parenting gig, I couldn't imagine doing it without you!
It won't be like this for long
