Since my 30th birthday is quickly
approaching (almost 2 weeks away) I thought I would do a blog post with 30 life
lessons. Cheesy you say? Well your right but it's better than sitting in the
corner and crying and trying to convince myself I miss counted and I am only
22. :)
30. When you become a mother: You
will have a relationship with God. You will understand what miracles are and
will be forever thankful to him for your children and the things he has blessed
you with.
29. When you become a mother: You
will have more patience than you thought you would ever need. There is
something to be said when your kid spills an entire glass of water and yells
"Oh Mommy, I spilled my water" and you don't freak out you just get
up and get a towel and begin cleaning telling your child that it's ok accidents
happen. Not all situations are like
this..sometimes they yell “I spilled my water” and you instantly start crying,
then while you are cleaning it up your other child starts climbing the stairs
only to fall backwards, while the kid who spilled is yelling while running in
circles “I have to pee I have to pee!” Some days you are graced with extraordinary
patience others not so much
28. When you become a mother:
Nothing will phase you when it comes to your child's bodily fluids. Whether
cleaning pee off a toilet seat, poop off your hand or a wiping a booger from
your finger. You won’t even care.
27. When you grow up: The amount
of sleep you can function on is unreal. Remember your teenage years when you
slept until 12 everyday of summer break? Well you do that because when you’re an
adult you have to fight for sleep.
26. When you become a mother: A trip to the grocery store without your kids
is heaven. If you’re a mom of more than one kid or maybe even one there is
nothing better than walking every aisle of target, or managing to get
everything on your list because you didn't have to rush out of the store because
one of your sweet child decided to throw a fit.
25. When you become a mother:
There is no such thing as on time anymore. There is only "we are late,
again" and I managed to get out of the house 1 minute before I wanted to,
only to remember I forgot the binky on the counter when you get a few minutes
away, therefore making you 5 minutes late rather than one time.
24. When you grow up: You realize
that the game of MASH gives you false hope on life. Your vision of 30 was 6
kids, a mini van, a mansion, with Johnathan Taylor Thomas, a pool in the
backyard, being a stay at home mom, in the mountains of Colorado. SHAM You find your real life of 30 is trying to
convince your husband into one more
child and hopefully winning, your daily dinner conversation being "If you
sit down and eat 5 bites you can earn a sticker and when you get 5 stickers you
get to go to GG and Papa's house,” date nights are being in bed by 8pm, and
getting up at 7am to go get the kids because well you miss them and the house
is too quiet.
23.
When you become a mother: You realize the term don’t cry over spilled milk was written
by someone who had never spilled a bottle of their freshly spilled breast milk.
Crying may be an understatement of how you react. Atleast for me it was
followed by crying, cussing, and cookie eating.
22. When you become a mother: The
words "I have to pee" can no longer be taken as I can hold it, it’s
more like I need to find a bathroom asap and I might have to stop and
"hold it" in the middle of the aisle.
21. When you grow up: You
actually know what all the taxes they take out of your paycheck are and how much
you pay for Health Insurance, what it covers, what a deductible means.
20. When you grow up: You are
envious of the person eating alone rather than feeling sorry for them.
19. When you become a mother: You
can count the number of times you hung out with your friends in the last 3
months on one hand. If you manage to get to 2 hands you instantly start the
whole "mothers guilt" process and begin thinking you are
self-centered
18. When you become a mother: Grandparents
are really here to spoil your children, to feed them too much candy, and love
them unconditionally just like your grandparents did for you. Embrace this
don't challenge it unless your kid is in danger.
17. When you become a mother: You
will spend countless hours researching car seat, strollers, schools, sports
teams your kids want to join, then you will doubt your decision until you find
the next thing to research.
16. When you become a mother:
There will be a day you say something and think to yourself "I have just
become my mother"
15. When you grow up: You will
marry your best friend, and spend countless hours thinking about the perfect
marriage, and then one day you will realize there is no such thing as the
perfect marriage it was myth.
14. When you grow up: You will
learn that marriage is a constant compromise, and hard work. But just like life
hard works pays off.
13. When you become a mother:
This thing called mother's guilt can eat you alive. Just remind yourself you are amazing every morning your feet hit
the floor.
12. When you grow up: You stop expecting
everything to be easy and embrace that you worked your butt off to get the things
you have.
11. When you grow up: You learn
that being an adult is such a fairytale, going to work sucks, paying bills
sucks, and worrying about everything under the moon well that sucks too.
10. When you become a mother: You
realize it’s exhausting, there are days you feel like locking yourself in the
bathroom and crying and then there are days where you really do lock yourself
in the bathroom and cry.
9. When you grow up: You learn
that sometimes it’s ok to just have a good cry. There is no shame in this game.
8. When you grow up: You learn
that time goes faster than you could ever imagine
7. When you become a mother: You
must write everything down because like time going fast your memories fade even
faster. Don’t worry you don’t forget the big stuff.
6. When you grow up: You learn
that trust is something that gets you through every day. You have to trust
yourself, your spouse, your child, God, your friends, your family, and the
stranger in the car next to you is going to stay in their lane.
5. When you become a mother: You
stop worrying about the life you could have had but starting make the life for
you children that much better than you could ever imagine.
4: When you grow up: You will
find that there is more than enough love in your heart to go around the world
millions of times.
3. When you become a mother: The
love that goes around the world a millions of times doesn’t even come close to
the amount that you love your children.
2. When you grow up: You stop
doubting yourself and realize that you are who you are and as long as you are
doing the best you can. You are perfect because you are you.
1. When you grow up and become a mother:
You realize that you are the luckiest person in the world to be a mom. Whether
it’s to 1 kid, 5 kids, your dog or to your fish. You are an amazing mom and if
you doubt it even for one second just remember all the things that you have
learned in your lifetime have brought you to this very moment. The good, the
bad and the ugly; you became this person because of your life experiences and
well you may be “30” but as long as you walk into another chapter with your
head held high you will not only survive but thrive.
Here’s to embracing the aging
process of life and to many many many more life lessons I will get to learn in my
next 30 years!
